Death to self involves the following concepts:

• Presenting our bodies as living sacrifices unto God (see Romans 12:1-2)
• Surrendering to God our rights as Christ did in coming into the world (see Philippians 2:5-8)
• Committing ourselves to carry out God’s will at any cost (see Luke 9:24)
• Recognising anger as a symptom of unyielded rights (see James 1:20-21)

Share with your children an appropriate examples of unyielded rights that caused you to become angry. Describe the circumstances through which God motivated you to yield those rights to Him. Tell how God rewarded you after you submitted to His will.

Share a second illustration which you submitted or went ahead in a matter which was not God’s will and which brought God’s discipline. Discuss situations in which it would not be God’s will to yield (see Romans 6:16).
